People are not the only visitors who enjoy Brooklyn Bridge Park’s beautiful waterfront. This summer the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, along with New York Audubon and the Coastal Marine Resource Center, invites children (and adults) of all ages to experience the birds and marine life of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
On August 15 and 22, join Audubon New York educators on a walk through the park and learn how to use binoculars to spot birds, and identify some common birds that make New York City their home.
Ever wonder why pigeons come in so many colors, how far underwater a cormorant can swim, or where our Canadian geese spend the winter? Find out. Binoculars and bird checklists will be provided.
After exploring the skies, find out what lives in the waters under the Manhattan Bridge. On September 13 and 27, join experts from the Coastal Marine Resource Center as they use a 30-foot seining net to catch fish and other remarkable East River creatures. Families and children can take a good look at the marine life and learn about their anatomy and life histories before releasing them back to their homes. They provide field guides, identification keys and plenty of fun to go around.
Space is available for 30 children plus their parents/guardians at each program. To reserve a space, e-mail Kara Gilmour, Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy Education and Stewardship Coordinator, or call 718-802-0603 extension 18.
