Donate a holiday toy; grab a bagel

For the fifth year in a row, Coney Island Bialys and Bagels, 2359 Coney Island Avenue, will be collecting Toys For Tots. Anyone bringing in a new, unwrapped toy will receive up to one (1) dozen bialys and/or bagels.

“In conjunction with the US Marine Corps’ Toys For Tots campaign, which runs this campaign year round but gets the majority of donations during the holiday seasons, we have become a collector for them,” said Coney Island Bialys and Bagels President Steve Ross. “If someone comes in with a new, unwrapped gift we will give them up to one dozen bialys and/or bagels, free. All we ask is that the gift be at least $10 in value,” Ross says.

According to Ross, “The kids get a toy and you get bread for the table. We have been doing this for five years now and it has been very successful. With the economy the way it is, to give a gift is hard, but if you can give that gift and still get something in return, what a great feeling it is.”

The program Ross is doing runs through the second week in December, during which time the Marines will pick up all the gifts. Anyone wishing to donate can do so daily from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m.
