Deja vu!
Luna Park’s Cyclone roller coaster stalled just before the first drop for the second time this season on June 13 — and once again, no one called 911 as riders descended the 85-foot-tall tower to safety.
The Fire Department has no record of any emergency calls from the park that afternoon, said a spokesman for the department. Despite the apparent oversight, the park was putting safety first, a Luna Park spokesman said.
“There was a minor malfunction,” said Bruce Bobbins, who declined to elaborate. “The riders were safely evacuated. And because the safety and well-being of our guests is our foremost priority, the Cyclone was taken off line while it was fixed and then inspected by both our own technicians and those from the Dept. of Buildings.”
Bobbins wouldn’t say whether the park called emergency services.
On that occasion, too, no one called New York’s Bravest — the agency that typically spearheads high-flying rescues — a department spokesman said.
Thrill-seekers stranded in March returned a week later to take their first ride of the season.
Like last time, riders on the locked-up amusement got tickets for a free ride, Bobbins said.
The ride re-opened on June 14, he said.
