A young girl suffered a broken ankle after she was struck by a wayward van in Sheepshead Bay. Witnesses to the Tuesday afternoon tragedy said that a van was zipping past the corner of East 28th Street and Avenue V at around 4:30 p.m. when the man behind the wheel blew a stop sign. The van impacted with another car at the corner and then jumped the curb, clipping the young teen as she walked her dog. The teen was reportedly knocked 20-25 feet upon impact. “She was literally knocked out of her shoes,” said one witness. Police were told that the van kept going, bashing through some large potted plants before ultimately landing in a resident’s front yard. The girl was rushed to an area hospital where she was listed in stable condition after treatment. Her shoes were left behind, left resting atop of a cracked planter that the motorist had run over. The driver in the vehicle that the van had struck was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said. Cops arrested the van driver, charging him with operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license. Residents complained that vehicular accidents happen quite frequently near the corner of Avenue V and East 28th Street.
