Two early-morning fires in East New York prompted a significant response from the FDNY on Friday, as crews battled separate blazes just blocks apart within half an hour.
The first fire was reported at 7:50 a.m. on Belmont Avenue between Shepherd Avenue and Berriman Street, according to FDNY officials. Firefighters arrived to find a blaze on the second floor of a two-story multiple dwelling. A total of 21 units and 79 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene, bringing the fire under control by 8:20 a.m.

Roughly 35 minutes later, at 8:25 a.m., a second call came in for Hegeman Avenue between Georgia Avenue and Sheffield Avenue. Units responded to a fire on the first floor of another two-story multiple dwelling. The FDNY again deployed 21 units and 79 personnel to the scene, containing the fire by 8:52 a.m.

No injuries were reported in either incident. Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of both fires.
