False promises
A trickster stole $2,000 from a woman by telling her he was was the landlord of a Brooklyn Avenue apartment she wanted to rent.
The victim told police she met the guy — who she knows — at the apartment near Avenue I at 8 am for a tour of the place. She said she handed the scammer the cash, and expected to hear back about the lease and keys. But she never heard from the cheat, police said.
High on theft
Police nabbed a woman and teen for buying $7,100 worth of goods at an Avenue U department store with fake IDs on Oct. 11.
The two ladies — a 29-year-old woman and 16-year-old teenaged girl — walked into the store near Flatbush Avenue around 5 pm and made purchases with fake identification, according to cops.
Officers caught up with the two the suspects around 8 pm and also found various prescription drugs in their possession.
Into thin air
Some lawbreaker stole a car from in front of a man’s Avenue L home on Oct. 11.
The owner told police that he left his vehicle in front of his house between E. 57th and E. 58th streets around 6 pm.
The next morning his spouse went to use the car, but it was gone, according to officials.
Clean swipe
A pilferer cashed stolen checks from a woman’s Avenue X home on Sept. 29.
Police said the bandit took a personal check from her in-home office near E. 71st Street and made a check out for $3,500. The woman noticed the withdrawal and reported it to cops on Oct. 11, suspecting her cleaning ladies who may have had access to her office, police said.
Not so fast
Cops cuffed a man who they say stole an E. 37th Street woman’s car from in front of her home on Oct. 12.
The woman told police she parked her vehicle in her driveway near Avenue R around 1 am, and later that morning it was gone.
Police nabbed the guy three days days later when officers pulled him over for running a red light, according to a report.
Accessory shopping
A crook stole car gadgets and accessories from a Brooklyn Avenue man’s vehicle between Oct. 9 and 10.
The victim told police that he parked his car near Avenue I around 10 pm. The next day he found his car’s speakers, radio system, navigation system, and license plate missing, cops said.
Police noted there was damage to the trunk and checked surveillance footage from nearby cameras, according to the report.
