Mom, dad and the kids united for a rollicking revel during a family day at Paerdegat Park, presented by Citizens for a Better Community.
The emerald empire at Albany Avenue and Farragut Road, morphed into a merry forum for area residents, who celebrated their neck of the woods with a day of special attractions and community fun; among them a cookout, sports tourneys with trophies, a youth talent show and pony rides – all capped by the sound of pulsating Calypso music and the sight of other crowd-pleasing performances.
The eight annual occasion also served as a database, acquainting visitors with available health services in their community while local health care workers administered blood pressure screenings.
East Flatbush resident Cassie Nicolas, 18, who will attend Long Island University in September, received a $1,000 scholarship. The teen, who lives with her siblings and grandparents, was selected because of her service to her community.
“You can call them anytime, and these kids will help with all the projects that you are working on, and always with a smile on their faces,” said Yvette Barrow, president of the group, which serves the areas of Farragut Road between Albany Avenue and East 35th Street, Glenwood between Albany Avenue and East 35th, and East 38th Street between Foster Avenue and Farragut Road, and East 39th Street between Foster Avenue and Glenwood Road.
