Firefighters battled their second multi-alarm blaze of the weekend Sunday morning, following another intense fire in Brooklyn Friday evening.
The first fire broke out shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, on the top floor of an apartment building at 289 Schenectady Ave. Engine Company 234 and Ladder Company 123 arrived to find heavy fire venting from the fourth-floor windows. More than 100 firefighters responded, using three hose lines to knock down the main body of the fire. It was placed under control by 7:40 p.m.

On Sunday morning, May 18, Engine Company 332 and Ladder Company 175 responded to reports of a fire at 389 Jerome St., a two-story attached brick private dwelling. Crews arrived just after 9 a.m. to find heavy fire in the rear of the building. Several residents escaped with only the clothes on their backs, some clutching their pets.
The fire extended into the neighboring building at 385 Jerome St. More than 100 firefighters from 25 units used four hose lines to bring the fire under control by 10 a.m. Searches throughout both buildings were negative.

No injuries were reported in either incident. FDNY fire marshals are investigating the cause and origin of both fires.
