Cyclones 7
Jamestown 4
Aug. 3 at Jamestown
L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli knocked in three runs on two hits and the Cyclones never trailed as the team finally broke the illusive .500 barrier.
Eddie Rohan started the scoring in the second with a two-run homer that scored Alex Sanchez, who had led off the inning with a line-drive single. The Jammers threatened in multiple innings to cut into the lead, but each time they put points up, the Cyclones would tack on some runse in the next inning.
Jamestown cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second, but the Clones responded with two more runs in the third. Patrick “To Infinity and” Biondi and Gavin Cecchini hit back-to-back singles. Mazzilli then grounded into a double play, scoring Biondi from second. Sanchez later hit an RBI double.
The Jammers put another run on in the sixth, but Biondi and Mazzilli immediately went to work. Biondi hit an RBI single and Mazzilli hit a two-run shot to put the Clones’ lead well out of reach.
The Brooklyn pitchers combined to throw eight strikeouts and allow just five hits. John Gant went five innings, while John Mincone, Cristian Chivilli, and Johnny Magliozzi each played their hand in relief.
The Cyclones are over .500 for the first time this year and will look to sweep Jamestown today, with the first pitch coming at 1:05 pm.
