Beach, please
The silly 1960s beach films of Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon get a campy, murderous update in Charles Busch’s “Psycho Beach Party.” Bring a chair or blanket and show up early for this free outdoor production — the Piper Theatre Company will turn the lawn into a pre-show luau with food, beer, wine, and soft drinks. The show continues Saturday and Sunday.

The rock musical from Prince has a stunning soundtrack and a problematic plot, but you can discuss the Kid and Appallonia’s dysfunctional relationship after the film at Sunny’s Bar, just a few blocks away.

They’ve got bite
Need some more brass? Go old-school with the swing, jazz, and blues outfit the Blue Vipers of Brooklyn, which plays retro tunes from the 1920s and 30s.
