No more pencils

School’s out for summer! But before you blow the school to pieces, consider the hardworking teachers and all they give up in order to deal with rebellious kids all day. If you have trouble imagining it, go see “The Animals,” a play set entirely inside an elementary school teacher’s lounge, where educators can let off steam and reveal their human side.

8 pm at Jack Theater (505 Waverly Ave. between Fulton Street and Atlantic Avenue in Clinton Hill, www.jackny.org). $18 ($13 for teachers).

Not the wrestler

Call it dad rock if you like, but Sting is playing Coney Island tonight with Peter Gabriel, and it is going to be awesome. The pair have 22 Grammys between them, and there is no opening act, so you can look forward to the former lead singers of the Police and Genesis playing separately, together, and switching off to showcase each other’s biggest hits.

7:30 pm at the Amphitheatre at Coney Island Boardwalk (3052 W. 21st St. between Surf Avenue and the Boardwalk in Coney Island, www.coneyislandlive.com). $65–$255.

Fire in the sky

Happy birthday, America! The Macy’s fireworks show returns to its rightful spot on the East River this year, and the barge launching pyrotechnics from just south of the Brooklyn Bridge means that the spacious Harbor View Lawn in Pier 1 of Prospect Park will offer stunning views of the rockets’ red glare. The sky lights will bloom just after sunset, but an early afternoon picnic will make sure you have the best viewing spot.

The new Reformation: Reformed Whores host a new variety show in Bushwick on July 7.

8:30 pm at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 1 [enter at Furman Street at Old Fulton Street in Dumbo, (718) 222–9939, brooklynbridgepark.org]. Free.

Aiming for funny

We need no excuses to see some funny ladies, but if also want to contribute to a good cause, drop by the comedy show “Harriet.” The Manhattan show, hosted by Farah Brook and Blair Socci, jumps the river to raise funds for the Newtown Action Alliance, a group that opposes gun violence. Tonight’s show features Ilana Glazer from “Broad City,” Judah Friedlander from “30 Rock,” and plenty more.

8 pm at LIttlefield (622 Degraw St. between Third and Fourth avenues in Gowanus, www.littlefieldnyc.com). $12 ($10 in advance).

Whore-ticulture

Tonight, catch some funny ladies for no reason but the laughs. The country comedy duo Reformed Whores (pictured), launch the new monthly variety show “Up ’n’ Coming” with some saucy tunes and stand-up performances from Amber Nelson, Anna Drezen, and token fellows Nick Turner and Erik Bergstrom, among others.

9 pm at the Cobra Club [6 Wyckoff Ave. between Jefferson and Troutman streets in Bushwick, (917) 719–1138, www.cobraclubbk.com]. Free.

Back to school: “The Animals” tells the stories of five teachers, who share their trials and tribulations while in the teachers’ lounge.
