Brazil boogie

Dance Africa, the nation’s largest celebration of African and diaspora dance, returns for its 38th year. This year’s fest — running May 22 through 25 — will highlight Brazilian dance, featuring the 38-member troupe Balé Folclórico da Bahia, which performs folkloric dances of African origin, including slave dances, capoeira, and samba.

Seeing double

Coney Island’s amusement parks are up and running again which means the Coney Island History Project — the neighborhood’s museum of People’s Playground past — is up and running again. The Project’s first show of the season will be an exhibition of antique stereo view photographs, offering a three-dimensional look at Sodom by the Sea from 1860 to 1920.

Pussy galore

You’ve gotta be kitten me! It’s Meow Day at Bushwick arts co-operative Silent Barn, an annual festival of feline. There will be kitties up for adoption, as well as vendors selling cat-themed goods, including jewelry, zines, clothes, and housewares.

Spin city: Have a topsy-turvy time at the Kings County Fair, open through May 25.

Cult filmmaker John Waters visits PowerHouse Arena for the paperback launch of his book “Carsick,” in which he recounts his trek from Baltimore to San Francisco, armed with cardboard signs that said things like “I’m Not Psycho” and “Midlife Crisis.” He will chat with Vanity Fair editor Mike Sacks.
