Panel discussion

Carroll Gardens cartoonist Dean Haspiel has immortalized Red Hook tavern Sunny’s Bar in his graphic novel “The Red Hook,” about a superhero with the same name as the neighborhood. Check out his original art — including a panel featuring Sunny and his wife Tone (pictured) — at the launch party and exhibit tonight.

Pride and joy

Get fabulous with a visit to Brooklyn’s Pride celebration on Saturday! Start at the afternoon street festival along Park Slope’s Fifth Avenue (from First to the Ninth streets, and then cheer for the Grand Marshals of the famous Twilight Parade, including Russian queer activist Lyosha Gorshkov and the queens behind Drag Queen Story Hour.

Tony Tony Tony!

We don’t often acknowledge Manhattan’s Great White Way, but consider this an extension of Brooklyn Pride! Watch the 72nd Annual Tony Awards at the Bushwick bar Syndicated, where you can join the prediction contest and root for “Spongebob Squarepants: the Musical!,” featuring a book by Brooklynite Kyle Jarrow and songs from Brooklyn’s Jonathan Coulton and They Might Be Giants.

Sunny days: In Dean Haspiel’s graphic novel “The Red Hook,” the main character works as a bartender at Sunny’s Bar. Haspiel will hold a reading and art exhibit at Sunny’s on June 8.

Song December

The Portland indie-folk rock band the Decemberists will bring its songs of shipwrecks, shape-shifters, and post-apocalyptic landscapes to Prospect Park for a ticketed show that will help to subsidize Bric’s free Celebrate Brooklyn! shows. We’re just hoping the band busts out “Ben Franklin’s Song,” its collaboration with Lin-Manuel Miranda.

What’s on tap?

Take your full lunch hour and head to Metrotech today, where you can catch one of the world’s best tap dancers, Savion Glover, team up with jazz drummer Marcus Gilmore for a free outdoor performance, as part of the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s R&B Festival.
