Flax & Fleece Fest

It’s a wild and wooly adventure in Prospect Park May 3-4. The Flax & Fleece Fest comes to the Lefferts Historic House while the Fleece Festival is at the Prospect Park Zoo.

The Lefferts event takes place 1-4 p.m. Kids can help plant flax and process fleece as in days of yore. Help wash, hang, card, and spin wool. Also, plant flax for the next harvest or join in a weaving workshop. This event is free.

Zoo activities run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the zoo for a day full of fleece, fur, and fun. Watch the sheep and alpacas get their annual haircuts and meet local artists as they teach visitors finger-knitting and other artistic techniques. This is all free with regular zoo admission ($6; $2.25 for seniors and $2 children 3-12).

The Lefferts Historic House and the Prospect Park Zoo are located at the Children’s Corner, inside the Park’s Willink entrance, at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard.
