To-be moms can rest easy, thanks to Dr. Shailini Singh, site director of maternal fetal medicine at NYU Lutheran.

The physician works closely with moms to get an early start on monitoring the prenatal well-being of unborn babies.

“The joint fetal-echo program is especially significant to our unit because of a high prevalence of diabetes in our pregnant patient population,” she said.

The top doc employs comprehensive ultrasound testing, blood tests, and examinations to measure for chromosomal problems and congenital heart defects.

Fetal echocardiography can confirm or rule out heart defects and congenital abnormalities, according to experts.

“Early detection of a heart lesion allows us to provide neonates and their families with the available treatment options for the best possible outcome,” said Dr. Achiau Ludomirsky, professor of pediatrics and associate chairperson of the NYU Langone Medical Center Department of Pediatrics.

If neonatal cardiac abnormalities are confirmed, Dr. Singh and her team schedule further tests to determine the level and degree of neonatal heart conditions.

“Our approach is a comprehensive one and we do not want to be blindsided by any undiagnosed birth defects,” explained Dr. Singh.

Pregnant moms can call this trusted team and make an appointment to ensure their baby remains healthy.
