Many seniors and their caregivers often keep to themselves persistent concerns that may be considered taboo for discussion. Questionsabout depression, dementia and delirium can be aired openly and answered candidly at Beth Israel-Kings Highway Division, June 24 from 6:30-8 p.m.
Organized by Beth Israel’s Geriatric Support and Outreach Services, the program is free and will be held across the street from the hospital, 1350 East 32nd Street, between Kings Highway and Avenue M.
Guest speaker Harriet Blank, LCSW, a certified social worker at the Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services will discuss some of the signs and symptoms of depression, dementia and delirium. Blank also will talk about how to advocate for proper care for these conditions, as well as discuss when forgetfulness is “normal” and when it should be given a serious medical evaluation. Caregivers will also benefit from learning how to manage difficult behavior.
