Is a stress-free Thanksgiving an oxymoron?
Not this year, when you can order online an entire holiday dinner
and wine, for six to 12 guests, for $249.95. "Sounds good,"
you say, but you’ve had catered birds and they’re always dry.
Not this time.
The "Click, Uncork and Gobble – Thanksgiving Made Easy"
meal is being prepared by Aricka Westbrooks of Jive Turkey, the
one and only (at least in Clinton Hill) year-round turkey fryer.
If you’ve tasted Westbrooks’ deep-fried bird, you know that dry
isn’t a word in her vocabulary. A Jive turkey is always moist
and deeply flavored with delectably crisp skin.
Partnering with Westbrooks for the dinner is Amy Bennett of The
Greene Grape. Bennett is the purveyor of the wine shop on Fulton
Street, known for its unusual selection of bottles from artisanal
growers. She’s selected six wines from American growers: a Riesling,
Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Syrah and an ice-wine for dessert.
The package includes a 10- to 12-pound turkey with a simple –
yet hearty – cornbread dressing, sauteed French green beans,
mashed potatoes and gravy, and Westbrooks’ spin on the marshmallow-topped
sweet potato casserole: the yam brulee made with pineapple, fresh
ginger and a little rum.
(The two stores held a tasting at The Greene Grape on Nov. 12,
pictured above.)
In Manhattan and Brooklyn, the supper is delivered to your door
from Monday, Nov. 21 to Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24.
The fully-cooked turkey, prepared to your specifications in flavors
such as Cajun, lemon pepper, roasted garlic and peach Bourbon,
can be refrigerated until you’re ready to start warming it up
for company. (Re-heating and carving directions as well as an
oven cooking bag are included.)
