Grab your grass skirt and hula the night away at the Tamaqua Marina in Gerritsen Beach for a good cause.
From 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 3, Avon 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer’s team Gerritsen Beach will be holding their “All Aboard” luau to raise money for their endeavor.
Team members are dedicating their walk to fellow member and cancer survivor Donna Kiever-O’Neill, who won’t be able to walk because of surgery she needs as a result of breast cancer. Kiever-O’Neill was diagnosed in July 2007, and team members are trying to raise $1,800 each for their 40-mile walk October 10 and 11.
Since the six women are avid boaters, holding their event at Tamaqua Marina seemed the ideal spot, and they’re hoping boaters and non-boaters alike will turn out to support their important cause.
“We have 25 really nice marine products, we’re going to have a Chinese auction, the response I’ve gotten from local store owners and the marine manufacturing community is incredible,” said team captain Karen Tress.
The luau will feature music by Susan Bach and friends, Daddy Rocker and band, and Double Play. The family event will have goodies for kids and adults, including a cash bar, facepainting, tarot card readings, and raffles and auctions with products donated by many top marine and fishing manufacturing sponsors.
“It’s really family oriented, we’re going to have coloring books, cupcakes, brownies, stick on tattoos, kids love that stuff.”
It will cost you $20 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit Team Gerristen Beach’s walk to help women fighting breast cancer.
Tamaqua Marina is located at 84 Ebony Court in Gerritsen Beach. For more information, call 718-646-9212.
