The Department of Transportation and state Sen. Roxanne Persaud (D–Canarsie) are hosting Bike Bonanza — a free helmet fitting and give-away event — at Canarsie Pier on July 15.
Helmets are available for youngsters of all ages, but cyclists must come get fitted in person before taking one home. Adults over 18-years-old will have to sign a waiver if receiving their own helmet, and parents or legal guardians must sign for kids under 18-years-old.
Bike Bonanza will also feature lessons for youngsters looking to brush up on their riding skills, as well as archery and kayaking, sponsored by Millennium Development and National Parks Service.
The activity-filled day is perfect for families looking to have some summer fun, said Persaud.
“Many families have challenges finding activities for their family that are affordable and in close proximity to their home, we want to ensure that our families are well served,” she said.
