A group of performance artists tried, and — spoiler alert — failed to levitate the offices of hipster journalism juggernaut Vice Media in Williamsburg on Tuesday.
The assembled bohemians, including Kevin Shea, Yuko Otomo, Steve Dalachinsky, and Matt Mottlel, said they wanted to send the N. 11th Street complex into the East River, employees and all, to unleash the “displaced and dormant creative energies underneath” the building’s foundation.
The action was inspired by the band the Fugs’ 1967 attempt to levitate the Pentagon, organizers said.
Vice employees, including co-founder Suroosh Alvi, passed in and out of the office past the assembly and its shrine of snow-dampened Vice magazines and beer cans, apparently unafraid of ending up in the drink.
