On May 3, actress-comedian Kim Coles will
emcee a fundraiser for the Learning Spring Elementary School
at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Palm House.
Coles, a Brooklyn native who attended Brooklyn Technical High
School in Fort Greene, is lending her talents to a benefit for
the Manhattan-based elementary school, which pioneers and advances
educational opportunities for high-functioning kids with Asperger’s
syndrome (autism), non-verbal learning disabilities and other
neuro-cognitive disorders.
The 33-year-old veteran of "Mad TV," "Living Single,"
"Frasier" and VH-1’s "Most Wanted Bodies"
will be joined by guest speaker, Dawn Prince-Hughes, author of
the 2004 memoir "Songs of the Gorilla Nation: My Journey
Through Autism."
The "Learning Spring Garden Gala," includes cocktails
and hors d’oeuvres beginning at 6:30 pm, followed by dinner.
Among the items up for bidding at the silent auction are dinner
for four with Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz at the
Water Club, a painting by Rosie O’Donnell and Broadway tickets.
