Grassroots artistry on the cutting edge of creativity

Mixed−media artist Megan Hays curated her first show at McCaig−Welles Gallery (129 Roebling Street) in Williamsburg this week, bringing along a bunch of her friends from Lumenhouse (47 Beaver Street), where she has been a fixture for several years.

“A lot of people I admired I got to ask, ‘Hey do you want to be in a gallery?” said Hays. “It was strange as an artist to think about what things will sell for and what looks good together.”

Fortunately, a diverse collection of works from Alessandro Ayuso, Gina Beavers, Deedee Cheriel, Molly Crabapple, Valerie Crosswhite, Megan Hays, Sara Hubbs, Kazuko Minokami, Aurora Robson and Chris Uphues fit together seamlessly.

The exhibit will be on display until August 2. For more information, visit www.mccaigwelles.com.
