With St. Patrick’s Day falling on Monday, March 17 and the first day of spring arriving on March 20, there’s plenty to celebrate this week. From the must-see parades in Park Slope and Bay Ridge to the bars and restaurants throwing parties borough-wide, this St. Patrick’s Day has a whole lot of revelry rolled into it. And while classic Irish spots like Farrell’s in Park Slope are always good for a green beer, we’ve found even more places to celebrate.
Parades
The Park Slope St. Patrick’s Day Parade assembles at noon on Sunday, March 16 at Prospect Park West and 14th Street. The parade will snake up to 15th Street and over to Seventh Avenue where it will turn right, head to Union Street and then back to Prospect Park West.
This year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Bay Ridge doesn’t take place until Sunday, March 30. Following a 9:30 am mass at St. Patrick’s RC Church (9511 Fourth Ave. at 95th Street), the parade will begin at noon at that intersection, move to Fifth Avenue and then head to its final destination of 59th Street. At 3 pm, a party and raffle will be held at the grandstand on Fifth Avenue at 75th Street.

Bars
Eamonn’s will feature corned beef and cabbage and Gaelic steak (a steak with whiskey cream sauce) on its March 17 menu. The bar will also serve Guinness, Irish coffee and Smithwick’s. A DJ will spin traditional Irish music, Irish-American songs and rebel songs.
On Friday March 14, following the noon mass at St. Charles Borromeo (21 Sidney Pl. at Aitken Place), the Celt’s Parade, helmed by Grand Marshall Heloise Traynor, Eamonn’s manager, marches from Brooklyn Supreme Court down Montague Street.

In Williamsburg, Spike Hill starts the festivities on March 16, with a DJ spinning Irish tunes. Also, its menu takes on an Irish flair, with Irish pies and Spike Hill’s Irish Fry-up, an Irish breakfast (served at dinner) of white and black puddings, Irish sausage, one egg, beans and potatoes.
St. Patrick’s’ Day is also the bar’s fourth anniversary, so expect the Jameson to flow liberally and the giveaways to be plentiful.

Bay Ridge’s Bally Union will have an a la carte menu on Monday featuring corned beef and cabbage and Shepherd’s pie. The two-piece band Alternatrad will play traditional Irish music during a daytime set, while Head Over Heels will rock the evening.

PJ Hanley’s, will feature bands all day Monday in the tent set up for the occasion. At 5 pm, Jason Lieberman will perform, and at 9 pm the band Visible From Space will play. Following the live bands, a DJ will spin Irish music. The tent will be open all weekend long and will feature drink specials and Irish food.
