Gym rat
Cops cuffed a thief accused of raiding a Montague Street gym on Feb. 2 — then prowling a Columbia Heights apartment building looking for easy marks.
A security guard at a tennis club between Hicks Street and Montague Terrace told investigators he was watching a surveillance camera feed at 3:35 pm when he saw a man grab an iPhone from a jacket hanging in a common area.
The crook fled the gym with the phone and started knocking on doors at an apartment building at the corner of Columbia Heights and Clark Street at 6 pm, police allege.
The man allegedly knocked on the doors of two apartments and told residents who answered that he was looking for his cousin.
Cops confronted the 20-year-old suspect, and say they recovered the stolen iPhone after a brief struggle.
Deli deviant
A 26-year-old stole a man’s American Express card from his Gold Street apartment and used it to rack up $19 of charges at a Downtown bodega last month, investigators say.
The crook snatched the credit card from the victim’s wallet during a 9 pm visit to the man’s home at the corner of Myrtle Avenue on Jan. 4, according to filings with the District Attorney’s office.
The suspect allegedly made his deli run at a convenience store around the corner the following morning.
