H.S. students strike a chord with the world

Eighty−five World Ensemble students from Brooklyn College Academy High School, who play a variety of instruments found around the globe, paid a visit to Public School 255 to perform a program of international music.

The World Ensemble’s director, Laurie Friedman, is a musician who has traveled around the globe and collected more than 50 unique instruments, which she has taught her students to play. Friedman and BCA Principal Nick Mazzarella built some of the larger drums and their carriers with the help of the students.

The children at PS 255, 1866 East 17th Street, were mesmerized by the music and instruments, particularly the rain drum and penny whistle.
