Vandals have destroyed Charon Luebbers’s “Urban Fossil Bird Woman,” a key part of the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition’s 25th anniversary show in the park at the foot of Main Street in DUMBO.

The sculpture, an abstract piece that evokes the spirit of flight and freedom, was intact as of July 6. But by July 21, it had lost the top section and been transformed into a jagged golden ruin.

“Somebody broke it!” one park-goer said. “People put nice stuff up and other people come and destroy it. That’s not nice.”
