Inspired by the industrial landscape photography
in the Brooklyn Museum’s current exhibition, "Manufactured
Landscapes" by artist Edward Burtynsky, the Brooklyn Philharmonic’s
Jan. 15 concert will feature music for metallic instruments.
Following a 2 pm talk by Mary Dohne about the photographs, members
of the Philharmonic will perform solo flute works by Edgard Varese
and Claude Debussy and percussion works by John Cage, John Luther
Adams and Theodore Wiprud (pictured).
Wiprud’s "Dark Love" explores an abstract painting
by Brooklyn-raised artist Pat Lipsky.
During the concert, Burtnysky’s photography will be projected
overhead.
The performance will take place in the Brooklyn Museum’s Cantor
Auditorium (200 Eastern Pkwy at Washington Avenue in Prospect
Heights) at 3 pm on Sunday. Tickets are $15, $10 for students,
seniors and Museum members and include admission to the museum
