It was a boozy bounty for Brooklynites!
Things were hopping over the weekend as thousands converged on Sunset Park to check out the Empire State’s craft beer and liquor scene at Cheers NY. Beyond of bevy of brewers craft connoisseurs have come to know and love, the event highlighted the burgeoning craft spirits business, featuring droves of distillers making the strong stuff right here in Kings County — something that surprised many event-goers.
“I had no idea this was as big a thing as it is,” said Luke Barron, a parochial islander from Manhattan who had never before ventured as far south as Sunset Park. “I would never have thought to buy whiskey from Brooklyn, but I’m definitely going to now.”
The show managed to pull a sizable crowd of about 2,000 thirsty patrons from Friday to Sunday despite Joaquin’s looming rains — initially a concern for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, which organized the event.
“At first we got nervous about the weather, but then ticket sales really started to increase, which is when realized that people were looking for something fun to do indoors,” said Andrew Steininger, spokesman for the chamber. “Everyone had a really great time selling and showing off their booze.”
