Council Member Michael C. Nelson, continuing his holiday tradition, presented gifts for the holiday season. In cooperation with the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty which arranged for the donations, Nelson delivered and distributed toys to the children of the New York City Housing Authority Sheepshead/Nostrand Housing Development at the holiday parties of the Sheepshead Tenants Association and the Nostrand Tenants Association.
“Unforeseen to many people, the economic crisis that has hit our country has taken a severe toll, emotionally and financially, on hard working families,” said the chairman of the Jewish Caucus. “Tough financial times only make it tougher for families to give their children the festive holiday season that they so fervently look forward to. Hopefully with these gifts come smiles and joy to the children that receive them.”
Not forgetting the importance of dressing warmly, Nelson also arranged for the donation of hats, scarfs and gloves to the children of PS 811K, a special school for children facing serious challenges. “In these cold winter months, it is critical for children of all ages to dress warmly. However, for many, that is simply not possible. Fortunately, due to the efforts of so many benevolent individuals in the community who so wholeheartedly donated these clothing items, we were able to provide the children with the necessities they need to stay warm and healthy this winter,” the councilman concluded.
