Home for actors, homeless
Polshek Partnership Architects

City officials, real-estate developers, advocates for the homeless and drama enthusiasts broke ground this week on what might be termed a groundbreaking Downtown development. Schermerhorn House, as the building will be known, will rise 11 stories on Schermerhorn Street between Smith and Bond streets, and include 217 subsidized apartments reserved for the homeless as well as actors who can’t afford Jennifer Connelly’s Prospect Park West digs. The affordable apartments will be subsidized by an additional 233 units of market-rate housing. The building, a production of the Actors’ Fund and Common Ground, will also include a small theater.
