HOME SWEET

If you are looking for inspiration to complete
your spring cleaning, why not take one of Brooklyn’s many house
tours? The admission price benefits the corresponding neighborhoods’
grassroots community organizations and you get an exclusive peek
into the borough’s most interesting homes. Perhaps you’ll come
away with inspiration for a few decorating tips of your own.

Some tours fit in some history, too. The first tour, of Victorian
homes in Flatbush on April 28, "celebrates the exceptional
architectural detail, the vibrant diversity and rich community
spirit that pervades the neighborhood today," according
to John Broderick of the Flatbush Development Corporation.

The homes on the house tours are carefully appointed and the
gardens (such as the one behind Silk Road Antiques in the Boerum
Hill House Tour on June 9) are notable, as well.

An interior of one of the homes on the Brooklyn Heights House
Tour on May 11 is shown. The Heights house tour will feature
an 1856 Italianate mansion house, a renovated 19th-century carriage
house and a re-created 1847 floor plan among other highlights.

The tours are usually held rain or shine, but call to confirm
in the case of inclement weather. Reservations are highly recommended.

Generally, interior photographs and children under 13, except
for infants in front packs, are not permitted inside the homes.
