Talented drama students engaged a rapt audience at Intermediate School 278 when they took to the stage for a homespun performance of “Annie, Jr.”

The cast of almost 50 budding thespians staged an abbreviated version of the original play with musical accompaniment by the award-winning school band and transformed the auditorium of the school, 1925 Stuart Street, into a mini-White Way.

Based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip, “Little Orphan Annie,” the musical ran for nearly six years on Broadway, spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical.

It features the popular songs, “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life.”
