An ice cream man’s sweet treat melted this week when city officials painted over a special — and illegal — parking space next to a kid-filled Carroll Gardens park.
The spot’s yellow parking lines appeared out of nowhere two weeks ago — and several ice cream truck drivers were more than happy to take advantage of the free parking on Carroll Street near Carroll Park and PS 58.
But the party ended on Tuesday when the Parks Department painted over the yellow line with a layer of gun-metal gray.
Many in the neighborhood suspected that one or more ice cream men had created the parking zone themselves, though there is no evidence to support the gossip.
“All of a sudden summer comes and there’s a new yellow line on the block? Come on!” one mother told The Brooklyn Paper.
But while some grumbled about the guerrilla parking zone, others said that it actually made their lives easier.
“I don’t mind him being here,” said Jackie Leone, a mother of two. “It’s convenient for both of us.”
Just hours before city officials sprayed over the elusive yellow lines, an ice cream man said he knew nothing — nut-tink! — about the illegally created parking space.
“I don’t know who painted it,” said vendor Tarkan Gundogu. “[The space] is not for me.”
Gundogu said that he had gotten the curbside spot about half the time he showed up.
“I love to work in [Carroll Gardens],” he said. “People here are nice and they don’t curse.”
As long as you don’t steal their parking spot.
