Cyclones 2

July 26 at Mahoning Valley

Andrew Church couldn’t make it out of the fifth inning and the Brooks could muster just five hits as the Cyclones fell to the Scrappers during what’s turning out to be the worst road trip of the season.

Willi Castro hit a leadoff homer for the Scrappers and Mahoning Valley extended the lead in the third inning when Michael Bernal committed an error allowing Ka’ai Tom to score from first.

The Cyclones scored in the fourth with the help of a few Mahoning Valley errors, but the game got away in the fifth.

Daniel Salters and Nathan Winfrey singled to begin the inning, and advanced on a fly out.

Tom Gamboa called on Darwin Frias to replace Church. Austin Fisher greeted the reliever with a run-scoring single to make it 3–1.

A wild pitch scored Winfrey and moved Fisher to second. Jodd Carter’s single made it 5–1.

Cyclone third baseman David Thompson’s run-scoring double cut the lead to 5–2 in the sixth.

Luis Mateo came out of the Brooklyn bullpen and pitched scoreless sixth before allowing a run in the seventh.

Jodd Carter’s sac fly gave the Scrappers a 6–2 lead.

P.J. Conlon pitched a scoreless eighth, but Brooklyn couldn’t mount a rally and fell to 19–16, tied for first in the McNamara Division with the hated Staten Island Yankees.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Tuesday at 7:05 pm at Hudson Valley.
