Afro Jazz Sundays is Brooklyn’s newest summer event for live music from African, Caribbean and Latin rhythms interwoven with jazz.
Every Sunday at Tamboril Restaurant, jazz is blended with different Afro-centric music traditions. On August 17, Aruan Ortiz and the Nawe Project will perform.
Tamboril is in the Clinton Hill section of the borough, near Pratt Institute at 527 Myrtle Avenue. Performances are 6-8 p.m. There is no cover charge, table or bar minimum. For information, call 718-622-5130.
Aruan Ortiz’s piano play combines Afro-Cuban rhythms with stylings reminiscent of Herbie Hancock, Andrew Hill and Phineas Newborn. Joining Ortiz and the Nawe Project are Rashaan Carter (bass) and Francois Sayas (drums).
