New York Jets players Tony Richardson and Dustin Keller scored a seasonal touchdown when they visited Woodhull Medical Center to hand out some extra special dolls as part of the Shadow Buddies charitable program.
The gridiron gladiators turned Good Samaritans and gifted 100 pediatric patients with “Tony Richardson Buddies” during a holiday trek to the medical facility, 760 Broadway, where the condition-specific dolls were given to seriously ill and medically challenged children to help them cope with their ailments.
Among the dolls was the “Respiratory Buddy,” featuring a hand-held inhaler to help asthmatic children understand their treatment.
The pair was joined by Shadow Buddies Foundation founder Marty Postlethwait, who established the program in 1995 after his son was born with multiple medical challenges.
Since then, more than 780,000 buddies have been donated to medically challenged children across the globe.
