Carroll Gardens painter Nad Wolinska hopes
that participating in March’s ArtExpo will make her a household
name – or at the very least, will encourage a gallery or two
to represent her. The 42-year-old French artist will be exhibiting
16 paintings from her "Divine Reality of Human Illusion"
series (pictured) in the SOLO pavilion, which features emerging,
independent artists.
"It’s very rare in the world that an individual artist can
exhibit at an international fair," Wolinska told GO Brooklyn.
"It’s an incredible platform for me."
Over 25,000 consumers are expected to visit the expo which features
over 600 exhibitors displaying paintings, sculpture and photography.
Wolinska says the theme of her latest series of paintings is
inspired by spiritual books that she has read and they feature
"divine and human attributes mingled." Her otherworldly
subjects are rendered using a technique she derived from the
Flemish Old Masters, layering 14 colors "one upon another"
and "refining each surface to reduce traces of the artist’s
hand."
The ArtExpo will be held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center
(655 West 34th St. in Manhattan). The expo is open to the trade
on March 3 and 4, and to the trade and consumers on March 5 and
