Families enjoyed the last bit of summer and the start of back-to-school during the second-annual Family Day Celebration in Kaiser Park on Sept. 10. Youngsters spent the afternoon jumping on bouncy castles, getting their faces painted, and playing games, said one Coney Island mom, who brought her two sons and niece to the park.
“It was great, the children really enjoyed it. They did everything — the bouncy house, the paint splash,” said Sacoya Crawford.
“My 3-year-old actually did the hula hoop.”
And 8-year-old Albert Hein kicked butt in checkers — after learning how to play for the first time, said Parks Department employee Kriston Baker.
“It was a good game, he didn’t really know how to play that well, I was teaching him as we were playing,” said Baker. “He won.”
Families at the event, which was sponsored by Councilman Mark Treyger (D–Coney Island), also enjoyed dance performances from the I-Dance Studio in Brighton Beach — and their moves may have inspired a few future ballerinas, said the studio’s manager.
“It was a great chance to perform, because kids are always looking for more opportunities,” said Anastasia Shadryna.
“It’s good for the community and it was nice weather in the park.”
