The 68th Precinct Community Council’s and the 68th Police Precinct’s National Night Out Against Crime will be held August 4 from 6:30−9:30 p.m. in the park at Shore Road and 79th Street, and is anticipated to be even bigger and better than ever before.
National Night Out, a yearly event started 26 years ago by the National Organization of Town Watch, is a night in which law enforcement and communities stand together to show community spirit and to take a stance against crime and drugs.
This year, the free event for everyone in the community, meant to spotlight the tight relationship between area residents and the men and women of the 68th Police Precinct who work hard serving and protecting each day, will feature a BBQ, snacks, drinks, ices, potato chips, giveaways, rides, music, and more.
The 68th Precinct Community Council will also be presenting the First Annual National Night Out Award, which will be given to Kelli Kilbride, who exemplifies the meaning of the words good samaritan. Kilbride always keeps her eyes and ears open, always calls the precinct when she see things, and is always helping her neighbors, both near her house and near her store Lavender Blue.
