Following a series of missteps, a fifth−grade student at one local public school reportedly ended up spending the night there undetected, officials confirmed this week.
According to information provided by a source within the school, who asked not to be identified, the student was found sleeping in the basement greenhouse of Public School 114, 1077 Remsen Avenue, on the morning of May 14th, after his mother arrived at the school looking for him.
The source said the boy −− who is a special education student −− was not picked up the previous day by either his mother or his brother, due to a misunderstanding.
“Each thought the other had picked him up, and brought him back home and that he was sleeping in his room,” recounted the source, who said his absence was discovered the following morning, whereupon the mother headed to the school. While “nobody knew where he was,” said the source, “a young student overheard the adults’ conversation (at the school) and told them that he knew where the boy was hiding.”
The alleged incident was not reported to the 69th Precinct or to child welfare authorities, the source said.
Cops at the 69th Precinct confirmed that no reports on this incident were filed with their office.
