Batter up!

The Kings Bay baseball trophy ceremony luncheon at PS 52 on June 29 hit it out of the park with awards for every slugger, an array of food, and a video montage of the stars — who really liked their close-ups.

“They were ‘oohing,’ ‘ahhhing,’ laughing, and cheering,” said Anthony Georgopoulos, the president of the Kings Bay league.

The food was much more than just some peanuts and crackerjacks. Families brought food to the buffet-style meal, donating pulled pork, baked ziti, chicken rollatini and plenty of kid-friendly foods, like chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and pizza.

“This is mostly family donations,” said Georgopoulos. “Everyone chipped in.”

There was also an auction, with lots of local businesses’ donations, including gift cards and a tablet. The proceeds from the auction are used for next season’s expenses.

“The money goes back into the organization,” said Georgopoulos.
