Know your history

To The Editor:

I believe this is not the first time you’ve made this mistake, but perhaps no one pointed it out before, so you’ve repeated the error.

The guys in the colorful military uniforms in your photo in the August 7 edition of your paper, who you say are, dressed in full Revolutionary War uniforms are preparing to re-enact the Battle of Brooklyn are actually Civil War re-enactors. They are portraying soldiers of the 14th Brooklyn Regiment (NYS Militia), AKA Red Legged devils because of their red trousers.

It’s easy to tell Civil War Uniforms from those of the Revolution: The Revolutionary soldiers (mostly) wore tricorn hats, whereas the Civil War guys (mostly) wore flat topped, short-billed caps, in this instance known as kepis.

Your faces should be as red as these guys’ pants.
