While it usually honors police officers, the 76th Precinct Community Council took time last week to honor an institution.
At its Sept. 1 meeting, the council awarded Long Island College Hospital (LICH) with a certificate of appreciation for “outstanding service and assistance” to the police department and the community at large.
Dominick Stanzione, the hospital’s interim president and CEO, accepted the award from Captain Kenneth Corey, the commanding officer of the precinct. Corey said the hospital has treated his cops’ assorted injuries and ailments, and has done so with professionalism and care. “This is just a recognition of all they have done,” he said. LICH, located at 339 Hicks Street, is expected to partner with SUNY Downstate Medical Center, an endeavor hoped to ease its financial woes.
