Long Island College Hospital (LICH) of Brooklyn celebrated its 150th anniversary with a Gala Ball.
The event saluted the hospital’s medical staff and for the first time in its history, featured a nurse as the honoree.
Catherine Gallogly-Simon, RN, MS, CCRN, vice president of Nursing was recognized for the extraordinary and increasingly important role nurses play in the delivery of hospital and medical care.
At the event, Dominick Stanzione, interim president, said, “Clinical departments providing vital services to the community will receive upgrades and enhancements. For example, we’ve already ordered a ‘temperature management’ system for the Emergency Department as new research proves that cooling the body protects the brain. When body temperature is significantly lowered after certain types of heart attacks, the patient’s chance of survival without brain damage is much greater.” Stanzone then added, “Proceeds of the events directly benefit patient care.”
Then, as now the hospital’s medical staff played a vital role in its success, working tirelessly to ensure that the hospital remains a premier healthcare facility to which the community may turn to for care.
For 150 years the hospital located at 339 Hicks Street has been at the bedsides of countless grateful patients.
