Burkina Electric, the first electronica dance band from the West African country of Burkina Faso, brings traditional Burkinabe music and Western club electronica dance to Brooklyn.
Led by Brooklyn-based composer/percussionist Lukas Ligeti, Burkina Electric oscillates fluidly amongst the traditional soundscapes of the African nation of Burkina Faso, fusions of techno/trip-hop, and the rhythms of contemporary electronic dance culture, creating what many call a new genre of African electronica both experimental and exciting.
The concert is August 9 with a workshop at 5 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m. at Five Myles, 558 St. John’s Place in Brooklyn. The event is free; call 718-783-4438 or visit www.fivemyles.org.
