Failed car theft
A thief put a gun to a man’s head, mugged him, and tried to steal his car on W. 29th Street on Sept. 4, said police.
The victim told police he was in his car between Mermaid and Surf Avenues at 1:40 am when a stranger approached him, pulled out a silver handgun, and demanded he get out of his car.
The ruffian took the man’s watch, wallet containing $700, and his cellphone. The gun-wielding man got into the victim’s car and told him to walk away. The victim ran away with his car keys so the robber was unable to drive away. The baddie then fled on foot, police said.
Die-hard fan
A man was arrested for refusing to leave a show at the Coney Island amphitheater on the Boardwalk on Sept. 3, said police.
Police say the man was ejected from the amphitheater near W. 23rd Street at 9:30 pm by security after refusing to leave. According to a police report, as security escorted him out, he resisted by flailing his arms. Police said the man threw several punches at uniformed officers.
As the officers continued to approach the man, he pulled a knife out of his pocket, and continued to resist arrest by flailing his arms, officials said.
Boardwalk abuse
Police cuffed a man who they said beat another man with a metal stick on the Boardwalk on Sept. 4, police said.
The victim told police that he was strolling the iconic walkway near Stillwell Avenue at 7 am when he was suddenly struck in the back by a man picking up trash with a metal stick. The 65-year-old victim was taken to Coney Island Hospital, police said.
Purse snatchers
Four nogoodniks swiped a woman’s purse off a Neptune Avenue bench on Aug. 31, said police.
The woman was sitting on the seat between W. Fifth Street and Ocean Parkway when the four jerks ran towards her, snagged her purse, and continued running. The purse contained a credit card, cellphone, and prescription drugs.
Botched car heist
Thieves tried to hotwire a woman’s car on W. 33rd Street on Aug. 30, said police.
The victim told police when she came out of her apartment between Neptune and Bayview Avenue at 6:30 am she noticed damage to the driver’s side door of her red Dodge caravan. Upon closer inspection, the woman discovered damage to the key ignition slot and wires hanging from below the steering wheel. No other property was removed from the vehicle.
