Man allegedly bites off cop’s fingertip

A man allegedly bit off a chunk of a cop’s finger during a jailhouse struggle on April 6 in Canarsie.

An officer was escorting the man through the 69th Precinct building on Foster Avenue near Rockaway Avenue at 5:55 pm after the man was arrested on charges of criminal mischief. But things got hairy when the officer tried to handcuff him.

“The prisoner was being loaded into the cell area. The officer attempted to handcuff him when he took an aggressive stance,” said a police spokesman. “They fell to the floor.”

The man then allegedly bit off a chunk of the officer’s finger during the ensuing scuffle.

“He bit his left middle finger,” said the spokesman. “He bit off from the nail to the tip.”

The officer went to Kings County Hospital Center for treatment and has been released. Police said they did not know where the tip of his finger ended up.

The Daily News reported that the man swallowed the officer’s fingertip, and was himself injured in the tussle.

The alleged biter, from Brownsville, was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, according to the spokesman.
