The 37-year-old leapt in front of a Coney Island-bound train at 4:04 pm, according to a Fire Department spokesman. The train severed the man’s legs, and emergency responders took him to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:06 pm, she said.
Transit officials rerouted Manhattan-bound D trains onto the N line from Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue to 36th Street stations. Regular service resumed at 4:50 pm, said a transit spokeswoman.
Two witnesses saw the man leap in front of the train, according to a Police Department spokeswoman, who said officials are still investigating.
