Lowell 2
Cyclones 1
July 23 at Lowell
Lowell’s Kevin Mager hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to put the Spinners ahead for good and the Cyclones dropped a second straight game.
The Cyclones, who have been in a hitting slump as a team, scored in the fifth inning, when James “Papa” Roche doubled to deep center and Colton Plaia immediately connected on a base hit to right field, putting runners on the corners. Patrick “To Infinity and” Biondi then single Roche home.
Cyclones’ starter Seth Lugo pitched an effective seven innings, striking out four batters. But the sixth inning proved to be the killer when Tzu-Wei Lin singled and then made it to third base on two consecutive fielder’s choice ground outs. After Aaron King walked, Mager hit his RBI double to score both base runners and put the winning margin on the scoreboard.
The Cyclones put the tying run on base in the ninth when Matt “Bright Eyes” Oberste reached first on a fielding error, but the Clones went down in order after that to end their comeback hopes.
The Boys of Summer will look to get back on the winning track tomorrow morning at Lowell, starting at 11:05 am.
