By 2017, the Big Apple will boast one million more trees.
The prospect was given a verdant boost when veteran entertainer Bette Midler and Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden helped celebrate Arbor Day in Greenpoint by planting trees at McCarren Park, Lorimer Street and Driggs Avenue.
The salute to Mother Nature coincided with MillionTreesNYCMonth, a public-private partnership between the P{arks Department and the New York Restoration Project, which Midler founded, through which one million trees will be planted and cared for throughout the five boroughs in the next nine years.
